Den's Dental Blog

Hello! My name is Den. This blog is going to cover a range of dental topics. I am not a dentist or a dental nurse but I have recently undergone a lot of dental treatment. This treatment has given me a great insight into the world of dentistry and I would like to share everything I have learnt with you here. Last year, I developed terrible pain in my mouth. I was diagnosed with severe tooth decay. The dentist removed the problem teeth and then inserted false ones in their place. He also whitened my teeth to improve my smile. I hope you find my blog useful.

The Benefits of Invisalign Braces

by Myrtle Banks

If you looking for a way to straighten your teeth, you will have the option of traditional braces or Invisalign braces. Invisalign braces are made using clear plastic rather than the metal used as part of traditional braces. This gives them a number of advantages over traditional braces. Below is a brief guide to the benefits of Invisalign braces.

They are safer

Invisalign braces are safer than traditional braces. The metal parts of traditional braces can protrude into the mouth, causing sores and scratches to the gums and inside of the mouth. Invisalign braces do not have metal parts which protrude into the mouth, which eliminates the risk of sores and scratches to your mouth, providing a safer and more comfortable experience.

They will not cause demineralisation and tooth decay

When worn for a long period of time, metal braces can also cause demineralisation of your teeth. This occurs when the metal parts of the brace chemically react with food debris which can become trapped between the brace and your teeth. Demineralisation can lead to increased tooth decay. However, because Invisalign braces are made of plastic, they do not promote demineralisation of your teeth.

The are removable

A major problem with traditional braces is that they are fixed to the teeth and cannot be removed. This makes it very difficult to remove any food debris and plaque which has built up between the metal braces and the teeth. However, because Invisalign braces can be easily removed, they allow for easy cleaning of your teeth.

You do not have to restrict your diet

People who opt for traditional metal braces often have to give up some of their favourite foods such as bagels, popcorn, pretzels and pizza. These foods can easily become trapped between the teeth and the metal parts of the braces. However, because you can take out your Invisalign braces, you can pop them out and eat whatever you like.

They look great

One major drawback of being fitted with traditional braces is that they are highly visible and can look unsightly. They can ruin your smile and damage your confidence. However, Invisalign braces look great and are often not very noticeable when being worn.

If you are considering what type of brace you wish to be fitted with, you should book an appointment with your dentist who will be able to assess your oral health and provide advice and treatment.
