About Me

Den's Dental Blog

Hello! My name is Den. This blog is going to cover a range of dental topics. I am not a dentist or a dental nurse but I have recently undergone a lot of dental treatment. This treatment has given me a great insight into the world of dentistry and I would like to share everything I have learnt with you here. Last year, I developed terrible pain in my mouth. I was diagnosed with severe tooth decay. The dentist removed the problem teeth and then inserted false ones in their place. He also whitened my teeth to improve my smile. I hope you find my blog useful.

How to choose a dentist

by Myrtle Banks

Regular trips to the dentist are a must if you want to keep your teeth and gums in good condition; without periodic check-ups, cleanings and other treatments, your oral health can quickly deteriorate. This is why it is so important to find a good dental practice that meets your specific requirements. If you're currently in the process of looking for a new dentist, here are some tips on finding one that's right for you.

Visit the practice

It can be difficult to tell whether a dental practice is suitable for your needs just by viewing its website or reading its promotional materials. Visiting it in person is a much more effective way to determine if it's the best choice. A trip to the practice will enable you to assess if the receptionists and other staff members are friendly and helpful and will allow you to speak to the dentist you are considering registering with.

It is absolutely crucial that you are comfortable with your chosen dentist, especially if you have troublesome oral health issues that require frequent treatments or if you are somewhat dentist phobic and therefore need one who has a sympathetic and understanding manner.

Chatting with a potential dentist face-to-face will allow you to determine if they are someone you can feel at ease around. They should be polite, respectful and willing to listen and offer comprehensive answers to your questions and concerns. Don't be afraid to discuss your dental issues and ask them what experience they have with treating those particular problems; if for instance, you intend to undergo cosmetic work, such as veneer fitting or teeth whitening, then it's important that the dentist you choose is trained in cosmetic dentistry.

Take facilities and accessibility into consideration

The location, opening times and facilities of a particular dental practice should be factored into your decision-making process, as these things will play a significant role in determining if it is the right place for you. After all, there's little point in signing up to a practice (even one run by an exceptionally professional and experienced dentist) if it is located too far away from your home, doesn't offer the evening or weekend appointments you need or lacks the technology required to treat your dental problems.

As such, it's important to ensure that you choose a dentist with a practice that is relatively close to where you live. Additionally, make sure that you ask what their opening times are and if they offer out-of-hours appointments. Lastly, ask them, for example, if they carry out x-rays on site and if they use dental lasers and other high-tech equipment as part of their treatment plans.
