Den's Dental Blog

Hello! My name is Den. This blog is going to cover a range of dental topics. I am not a dentist or a dental nurse but I have recently undergone a lot of dental treatment. This treatment has given me a great insight into the world of dentistry and I would like to share everything I have learnt with you here. Last year, I developed terrible pain in my mouth. I was diagnosed with severe tooth decay. The dentist removed the problem teeth and then inserted false ones in their place. He also whitened my teeth to improve my smile. I hope you find my blog useful.

Improve Your Smile and Confidence With These Proven Cosmetic Dentistry Services

by Myrtle Banks

Even though general dentists provide services related to the general maintenance of your oral health and hygiene, they can also perform various procedures to enhance your smile. These smile-enhancing procedures are known as cosmetic dental treatments or services.

Here are a few popular cosmetic treatment options for improving your smile and confidence.

Teeth Whitening

Over time, your teeth can become yellowish or brownish due to various factors, like ineffective brushing, tobacco use and consumption of stain-causing foods or drinks such as tea, coffee, red wine, fruit juices and soy sauce. If you don't like the colour of your teeth, teeth whitening might be right for you.

As the name implies, this cosmetic dental procedure helps whiten your teeth to achieve a brighter smile. The whitening effect is achieved by applying a whitening product with a high concentration of a strong bleaching agent—typically hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide—to your teeth.

Different teeth whitening options are available, but they all fall into two main categories—at-home and in-office whitening treatments. While it's cheaper to whiten your teeth with kits for DIY whitening at home, getting a professional whitening at the dentist is safer and delivers more delightful and long-lasting results.

Porcelain veneers

If you have oddly shaped, chipped, uneven or slightly misaligned teeth, porcelain veneers can be an excellent treatment option for you.

Made from porcelain, these super-thin, custom-fabricated shells are bonded to the front of the teeth to fix minor cosmetic damage. They can also be used to repair severe tooth discolouration that cannot be whitened.

Although porcelain is not the only material available for dental veneers, it is generally preferred over other veneer materials because it gives patients a more natural-looking smile.

Dental crowns

Often confused with dental veneers, crowns are used to repair cosmetic damage from trauma or severe tooth decay. They can also be suitable for improving the appearance of malocclusion or crooked teeth that cannot be repaired with veneers.

A dental crown hides visible blemishes of the tooth it covers while providing the additional strength and support necessary for the tooth to function effectively. While a crown procedure is non-invasive, it requires more enamel (the outer, visible white layer of the tooth) to be removed than veneers.

If you need a smile makeover, talk to your dentist about the various cosmetic dental solutions available out there. That way, you can better understand the available cosmetic dentistry services.
